Is FOMO legit? Our review of the app (2026)

Short answer

FOMO is a real, venture-backed crypto trading app from FOMO Labs, Inc. The company raised a $75 million Series B led by Index Ventures in June 2026. The wallet is non-custodial. FOMO is not registered with or licensed by any regulator (Terms, section 18). Memecoins on FOMO can still fall to zero.

News, 23 September 2026: the “crypto-draining FOMO app” story

On 20 September 2026 the security firm SlowMist published an analysis of App Store malware in an iPhone app called FomoPeek. On 22 September 2026 Protos covered the story under the headline “Crypto-draining FOMO app was available on Apple store for a week”. The two sources name the app differently.

What each source says about the app.

SourceDateWhat it says
SlowMist20 Sep 2026Names the app FomoPeek. Lists its developer as WhaleScanv and its App Store seller as Porter Manufacturing, L.L.C. Reports malicious code in versions 1.1 and 1.2, live from 9 to 17 September 2026.
Protos22 Sep 2026Calls it a “Crypto-draining FOMO app” in the headline. Cites SlowMist's findings.

FOMO's App Store seller is FOMO Labs Inc. (app ID 6741115427). As of 23 September 2026 no primary source we found names FOMO Labs Inc.'s app as the carrier. To check that you have the real app, follow the steps on our download page.

Who is behind FOMO?

FOMO Labs, Inc. makes and runs the FOMO app. Fortune names the founders as Paul Erlanger, Se Yong Park and Prashan Dharmasena. CryptoBriefing reported that all three worked at the crypto exchange dYdX and founded FOMO in 2025.

FOMO has announced two large funding rounds. Benchmark led a $17 million Series A that closed in September 2025. FOMO announced it on 6 November 2025, with total funding of $19 million at that date. On 22 June 2026 FOMO announced a $75 million Series B led by Index Ventures, with Union Square Ventures and Benchmark. Fortune reported a $550 million valuation for that round.

User numbers come from FOMO only. The Series B post says more than 625,000 people joined FOMO in its first year. The App Store description now claims “1,000,000+” users. We found no independent source for either number.

Who holds your money on FOMO?

FOMO says your wallet is non-custodial and belongs to you. The help centre states that “fomo never holds your funds on your behalf”, and that no one at FOMO can move, hold or access your tokens.

  • Split key. FOMO says the private key is split into several shares, so no single party can rebuild it. The key comes together only inside a secure hardware environment, for the moment it signs a transaction.
  • Login and biometrics. You sign up with Apple or Google, with no seed phrase. The wallet is tied to that login. A different login creates a separate account. A biometric check such as Face ID guards app opening, withdrawals and key export.
  • No wallet import. FOMO states: “fomo does not support importing an existing wallet.” The app makes a new wallet for you.
  • Key export. You can export your Solana and EVM private keys and open the same wallet in another non-custodial wallet app.
  • No reversals. FOMO states that no one at FOMO can reverse a confirmed on-chain transaction.

FOMO's Terms of Service (section 6) state that the wallet “is generated and managed by Privy, a third-party wallet infrastructure provider”. FOMO's page “Is the fomo App Safe?” names Privy too. The help centre describes the key split but does not name the provider.

The help centre does not describe what happens to wallets if FOMO stops. It does warn that if you delete your account without exporting your private keys first, you lose access to those funds. Export your keys before you delete an account.

Is FOMO regulated?

No. FOMO's Terms of Service, dated 17 August 2026, state in section 18: “FOMO is not registered with or licensed by any regulatory authority.” The same section says FOMO does not give investment advice.

The Terms are governed by New York law. Either side can take a dispute to binding arbitration in New York. The Terms also waive class actions and jury trials.

The Terms bar users in a list of restricted jurisdictions. The list names Crimea, Cuba, Donetsk, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran, Libya, Luhansk, Myanmar, North Korea, Sudan, Venezuela and Yemen. It also covers any country under US, UK or EU embargo and any place that restricts crypto transactions. The Terms prohibit the use of a VPN to get around these limits.

Some products have extra limits. Perps are not available to US persons. Robinhood Tokens are not available to US persons or to residents of Canada, the UK or Switzerland. The full list, country by country, is on our where FOMO works page.

FOMO asks for identity documents only before your first bank withdrawal. Its partner Spritz runs that check. You must be 18 or older to use FOMO.

Has the FOMO app been hacked?

As of 23 September 2026, no primary source we found shows a hack of FOMO Labs Inc.'s own app. Two stories often appear in searches for a FOMO hack. A third risk is a look-alike website.

The FomoPeek malware report (September 2026)

SlowMist, a blockchain security firm, published its analysis on 20 September 2026. According to SlowMist, the affected iPhone app is FomoPeek. SlowMist lists its developer as WhaleScanv and its App Store seller as Porter Manufacturing, L.L.C. SlowMist reports malicious code in versions 1.1 and 1.2, which were live from 9 to 17 September 2026.

Protos reported the story on 22 September 2026. Its headline calls the app a “Crypto-draining FOMO app”. The real FOMO app on the App Store has a different seller: FOMO Labs Inc., app ID 6741115427.

If you installed FomoPeek, SlowMist's advice is to treat the seed phrases and private keys used on that phone as exposed. SlowMist also says that updating or deleting the app may not be enough. Our download page shows how to check the seller name before you install.

The $6 million loss claim (August 2026)

On 23 August 2026 an account on X alleged that a FOMO app update caused $6 million in crypto losses. The post pointed to one wallet that lost 662 SOL. Protos reported the claim and FOMO's answer on 24 August 2026.

FOMO co-founder Prashan Dharmasena denied the claim in public. Protos reported that he said the account in question has no transaction signed by FOMO's fee payer. Protos found that the 662 SOL transfer itself is real. No source we found confirms the $6 million figure or shows that the FOMO app caused the loss.

The fomoo.family look-alike site

fomoo.family, with an extra letter o, is not FOMO. Malware guides from MalwareTips and PCrisk describe it as a copy of the FOMO site with a “Connect wallet” button. The real web app is at fomo.family. FOMO accounts sign in with Apple or Google, so a FOMO page that asks you to connect an outside wallet is a warning sign.

What do FOMO users report?

App store ratings for FOMO are high, and Trustpilot reviews are low. The Trustpilot sample is very small.

FOMO ratings by platform, read on the dates shown.

PlatformRatingCountRead on
Apple App Store4.8 / 520,694 ratings23 September 2026
Google Play4.8 / 56.37K reviews23 September 2026
Trustpilot2.1 / 59 reviews23 September 2026

The Trustpilot profile has 9 reviews and is unclaimed by FOMO. Nine reviews cannot stand for all users. The reviews still show which problems people take the time to report. The Trustpilot reviews we read on 23 September 2026 repeat four themes:

  • Selling and liquidity. Reviewers say a sell failed or did not execute, and doubt that some tokens have buyers.
  • Withdrawals. Reviewers report trouble getting money out.
  • Support. Reviewers describe generic, copied replies.
  • Verified tokens that fall. Reviewers say some tokens with a blue checkmark still lost their value.

FOMO's help centre names token risks that can block a sale. Its warning labels flag contracts that block selling, pools with little liquidity and developers who remove liquidity. Users outside the US can withdraw only as crypto, and FOMO warns that a network mismatch can lose the funds for good. Our withdrawal guide covers each route.

Does a verified token on FOMO mean it is safe?

No. A blue checkmark on FOMO means the FOMO team reviewed the token. Both of FOMO's verification articles say verification does not make a token risk free or guarantee its price.

The current bar for a review has four parts. A token needs a daily trading volume of at least $1,000,000 and a market cap of at least $5,000,000. It needs at least 1,000 unique holders. Its name and symbol must not copy a project that FOMO already verified.

New tokens start as unverified. FOMO then shows a pop-up: “This token has not been verified by the fomo team. Please be cautious and do your own research.”

Is FOMO a good trading app? Our score

We score FOMO 3.4 out of 5. FOMO scores well on fee disclosure, custody design and ease of use. It scores low on cash-out outside the US and on regulation.

Each criterion gets a score from 1 to 5. The overall score is the plain average, rounded to one decimal. We base each score only on FOMO's own documents, the sources below and our captures from a real FOMO account on 23 September 2026. The full rubric is on our methodology page.

Fee detail for every chain and order size is on our fees page. FOMO's App Store images also advertise a “$0 fee on first buy”. The help centre does not describe that offer.

Who should use FOMO, and who should not?

FOMO suits adults who want to trade memecoins on six chains from one balance and accept the risk of total loss. It does not suit people who need a licensed broker or a bank cash-out outside the US.

FOMO can fit you if:

  • You live outside the restricted jurisdictions in FOMO's Terms.
  • You want to hold your own keys but sign in with Apple or Google.
  • You trade with money you can afford to lose in full.
  • Your Solana orders are 190 USDC or more, where the fee is 0.50%.

Do not use FOMO if:

  • You are under 18. FOMO requires users to be 18 or older.
  • You need a platform that a regulator licenses and supervises.
  • You live outside the US and need to withdraw straight to a bank account.
  • You want copy trading. FOMO's help centre states that FOMO does not have a copy trading feature.
  • You make many small Solana trades. Orders from 5 to 47.50 USDC pay 2%.

If you decide to use FOMO

Start FOMO from an official source and with a small amount. Four steps for a first account:

  1. Install from an official storeGet FOMO from the App Store (seller FOMO Labs Inc.), Google Play (family.fomo.app) or fomo.family. Our download page has the checks.
  2. Sign up with Apple or GoogleA referral code at signup cuts FOMO's 0.50% fee to 0.45%. Our code is vip10, also at fomo.family/r/vip10. FOMO pays us 25% of your fees. You pay 10% less on the 0.50% fee.
  3. Start smallDeposit an amount you can lose in full. Check the fee line before you confirm each trade.
  4. Read the token labelCheck for an unverified or warning label before you buy. A checkmark means FOMO reviewed the token, and nothing more.

Questions people ask

Is FOMO a scam?

The sources we checked do not show that FOMO is a scam. FOMO Labs, Inc. has named founders, published funding rounds and official store listings. FOMO is not licensed by any regulator. Memecoins on FOMO can lose all their value, and Trustpilot reviewers report problems with selling and support.

Can FOMO take my money?

FOMO's help centre says no one at FOMO can move, hold or access your tokens. The wallet is non-custodial, and the private key is split into shares that FOMO alone cannot rebuild. You reach the wallet through your Apple or Google login, or through a private key that you export.

Was the FOMO app hacked?

As of 23 September 2026, no primary source we found names FOMO Labs Inc.'s app as hacked. SlowMist's September 2026 malware report is about FomoPeek, an app that SlowMist says Porter Manufacturing, L.L.C. sells. An August 2026 claim of $6 million in losses is unverified, and FOMO's co-founder denied it.

Is FOMO safe for beginners?

FOMO is easy to start: you sign up with Apple or Google and write down no seed phrase. The easy start does not lower the risk. No regulator licenses FOMO, memecoins can fall to zero, and a verified token can still lose value. Use only money you can afford to lose.

Is FOMO regulated?

No. FOMO's Terms of Service, dated 17 August 2026, state: "FOMO is not registered with or licensed by any regulatory authority." New York law governs the Terms, and either side can take a dispute to binding arbitration in New York. The Terms also waive class actions and jury trials.

Does a verified token on FOMO mean it is safe?

No. A blue checkmark means FOMO's team reviewed the token. FOMO says verification does not mean the token is risk free. To qualify for review, a token needs 1,000,000 dollars of daily volume, a 5,000,000 dollar market cap, 1,000 holders and unique metadata.
